![]() Rising Sun Regional Foundation grants Oldenburg Academy funds for classroom and facility renovations Oldenburg Academy of the Immaculate Conception thanks the Rising Sun Regional Foundation for their grant of $12,600 for classroom and facility renovations. Due to recent growth in student enrollment as well as the addition of three new courses (Principles of Engineering, Interpersonal Communications, and Advanced Placement German) to the curriculum for the 2010-2011 school year, the Academy’s academic building is at full capacity. This project involves relocating and renovating several classrooms and one office area prior to the start of the 2010-2011 school year. These renovations will result in an improved academic setting for students and will provide designated instructional space for all full time faculty. The Academy looks forward to using this additional classroom space to expand the educational opportunities that are offered to students. Completion of this project will also allow for future growth in enrollment. The project will begin in May 2010 and will be completed by August 2010. It will affect the music department, religion department, and Advancement Office. The music lab will be relocated from ICA Hall to the auditorium building by converting three small music practice rooms into one large room. This new music lab will house electronic pianos connected to computers, which will allow students to write and publish music, drill and practice musical concepts, improve aural skills, and compose traditional and non-traditional music. Currently, six of these computers are located in ICA Hall and two are located in music practice rooms in the auditorium. Relocating all of the music department’s computers to the same room, along with the electronic pianos, creates new classroom learning opportunities and allows students to fully utilize existing equipment. The new music lab will also enable music faculty to teach small electronic piano classes. “We thank the Rising Sun Regional Foundation for initially funding the music lab in 2003 and for helping us relocate and revitalize it. We’re really excited about all of the opportunities that will be available for student exploration,” said Elizabeth Beiersdorfer, music faculty. The religion department will move from the academic building to the third floor of ICA Hall. This relocation will allow for greater utilization of Our Lady of the Angels Oratory for all class masses as well as campus ministry needs. To bring the move to a close, the Advancement Office will relocate from the third floor of ICA Hall to the annex that currently serves as the Batesville Deanery Resource Center. Oldenburg Academy thanks the Sisters of St. Francis for generously providing this additional space in ICA Hall. |
