Rose, announced today that Alison Langferman has met the requirements to enter the 2011 National Merit® Scholarship Program. Alison is a Junior at Oldenburg Academy and took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) last fall. She is one of the 50,000 highest scoring students of approximately 1.5 million students who took the test. Alison’s high Selection Index scores in critical reading, mathematics, and writing skills qualify her for recognition in the National Merit® Scholarship Program. “Because these high performers have shown outstanding academic potential, we are now inviting them, through their schools, to be referred to two colleges or universities in the United States in which they are especially interested,” commented Else-Britt De Long, Director of Educational Services for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. This College Plans Reporting Service (CPRS) is offered to scholastically able students to encourage college officials to communicate directly with them concerning educational opportunities that may be available to them. Alison will be notified in September if she is chosen as one of the 16,000 National Merit Program Semifinalists, or if she will be one of the 34,000 students who will be named a Commended Student. Alison’s parents are Marvin and Margie Langferman. Alison is from Greensburg, Indiana. Established in 1955, National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) is an independent, not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance. NMSC conducts the National Merit® Scholarship Program and the National Achievement® Scholarship Program–annual competitions for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships. NMSC's goals have remained constant since its inception: to identify and honor academically talented U.S. high school students; to stimulate increased support for their education; and to provide efficient and effective scholarship program management for organizations that wish to sponsor college undergraduate scholarships. |
