Natalie Horn receives award for musical composition
June 21, 2010
Oldenburg Academy of the Immaculate Conception is honored to announce that Natalie Horn ’11 was selected as the 2010 winner of the Indiana Music Educators (IMEA) Composition Competition in the solo instrument category, with a piano composition entitled, Adam's Theme. "It was seriously amazing to see that I won, especially something so prestigious! It feels great to know that my composition was loved, considering it is such a part of me. I definitely have God to thank for this success," said Natalie. Natalie’s composition will be performed at the 2011 IMEA State Convention held January 20-22, 2011 in Fort Wayne. This year the adjudicators were Dr. Frank Felice of Butler College, Dr. Don Freund of Indiana University, and Dr. Jody Nagel of Ball State University.
This is the second year in a row that an Oldenburg Academy student has won a category in this state competition. Last year Andy Welsh ’09 won the instrumental chamber category with a marimba duet.
The IMEA Composition Competition offers young Indiana composers the opportunity to have their work evaluated by established composers/educators who provide written feedback, so that every composer who enters can learn and grow as a creative musical thinker and imaginer. Winning works are, whenever possible, performed at the IMEA State Convention, so that other young musicians have the chance to experience performing new music – perhaps as a world premiere.
In Ms. Wampler’s words, “It is a great honor for Natalie to win this composition contest. Contestants were from the whole state of Indiana. Bravo to Natalie!”
Natalie’s parents are Jeff and Kathy Horn of Sunman, Indiana.
