![]() A unique and engaging production of Steel Magnolias June 21, 2010 The Oldenburg Academy Alumni Association and the Franklin County Arts Council as well as surrounding communities are excited to be collaborating to perform Robert Harling’s touching comedy, Steel Magnolias. The concept of the show is to look at this dramatic work as a piece of Americana in the truest sense and as a result, to examining a variety of inimitably American artistic mediums that will enrich and enliven this unforgettable production. This summer two distinct communities are uniting to create a piece of timeless American culture both on stage, through music, and in each audience member enjoying the journey. The process of this production both in rehearsals and design has been informed by the deep roots of what some identify as the distinct American South and its pervasive roots into American culture at large. While the cast has been drum circling into an ensemble to complete their warm-up, exploring the African American roots of jazz and hip-hop, engaging in a meditation on Billie Holiday’s Strange Fruit or Nina Simone’s Feeling Good, and discovering the real depth of a ‘Southern belle,’ a team of designers, advertisers, and enthusiasts has been building a fascinating set, discovering local musical talent, and visiting the surrounding community’s beauty shops. Together this group has been growing as an ensemble to create an engaging production of Steel Magnolias. Starring: Catrina Campbell as Truvy Jones Sarah Wilz-Adams as Annelle Dupuy-Desoto Evelyn Walker as Clairee Belcher Savannah Pepper as Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie Toni Miles as M'Lynn Eatenton and Kathryn McDonough as Ouiser Boudreaux Directed by Stephen Hammoor, Steel Magnolias will be presented Friday, August 6 and Saturday, August 7 at 7:00 pm with tickets available for only $7 thirty minutes before each show in the Oldenburg Academy Auditorium, 1 Twister Circle, Oldenburg, Indiana. Come early and enjoy the atmosphere of the American South with live jazz, a glass of sweet tea, and good company before this classic piece of Americana.
