Oldenburg Academy Announces Major Athletic Initiative: Football Program
The Board of Trustees of Oldenburg Academy approved a plan to initiate a football program beginning with the 2012-2013 school year, according to President Sr. Therese Gillman, OSF. It is the school’s plan to initiate strength training and conditioning for the 2012-2013 season and have a full complement of games scheduled for the 2013-2014 school year.
“This is an exciting time in Oldenburg Academy’s history. It is with great hope and anticipation that we expand our athletic program to include the first OA football team,” Gillman said. “Implementing a full football program presents a great opportunity to expand student life and enhance our community experience.”
The board has studied the possibility of developing a football program and expanding its athletic programs for the past several years. In preparation for launching the program, Oldenburg Academy will begin hiring a qualified coaching staff, reaching out to interested student athletes, and arranging practice and home game sites. Ryan Brammer, OA Athletic Director, states, “One of the most important aspects of any sport is that we have knowledgeable and well qualified coaches who are in alignment with the mission of Oldenburg Academy. A search process is beginning for hiring a head coach and full staff. Training and knowledge sessions will begin this winter for the coaching staff.”
