OA Sending Four Runners To State Finals


The Oldenburg Academy girls track team posted third place finishes in two events at the Regional Meet at Shelbyville Tuesday night (5/22) qualifying four different runners for the IHSAA State Finals. The 4x800 Relay team of Ann Kuntz, Bridget Bruns, Meredith Maier, and Kirsten Ricke placed third and posted a new school record in the event with a time of 9:39.03. In the 1600 Meter Run, senior Ann Kuntz finished third with a time of 5:14.63 to qualify for the State Finals for the second year in a row.

The Lady Twisters participated in the Regional Meet in several other events as well. Sophomore Sarah Billingsley broke the school record and placed 6th in the 3200 Meter Run with a time of 11:45.90. Freshman Kirsten Ricke placed 5th in the 300 Meter Hurdles, also breaking a school record. Both records stood for over 20 years and were held by Amy Heile Fledderman and Sarah Roell Obermeyer, respectively. Ricke also placed 12th in the Long Jump. Ann Kuntz finished 7th in the 800 Meter Run. Bridget Bruns placed 11th in the 800 Meter Run and 14th in the 1600 Meter Run. Merideth Maier finished 14th in the 400 Meter Dash and Rachel Billingsley placed 15th in the 3200 Meter Run. Lastly, the 4x400 Relay Team of Kuntz, Bruns, Maier, and Ricke finished 9th. Overall the team finished with 21 points on the night for a 12th place team finish. The State Finals for girls track will take place next Friday, June 1 at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex at Indiana University in Bloomington. Field events begin at 3:00 pm, while the 4x800 Relay is scheduled to begin at 4:15 pm and the 1600 Meter Run is slated for 6:35 pm.
