Twisters Win Two in Short Span

The Oldenburg Academy boys varsity soccer team racked up two wins in a 17-hour period of time. The Twisters were 4-0 winners at Southwestern (Shelby) on Friday evening and followed up the next morning with a 2-1 win over Hauser. Josh Smith had a pair of goals to lead the way against Southwestern, while Brian Weberding added one. The fourth goal was a result of a mis-played ball by the Spartans. Goalie Luke Wilger and the defense recorded their sixth shutout of the season.

On Saturday, OA outshot Hauser 17-1 in the first half, but managed only a 2-0 lead. Daniel Mullen assisted on the first goal by Ted Geis on a restart of a free kick. Mullen then scored one of his own to make it 2-0. Hauser countered with the only goal of the second half.

“This was a game that we had the upper hand for most o the game, but as you know soccer is a funny game,” OA coach Ken Getz commented. “A couple miscues can be costly. To be a real good team you have to capitalize on the opponents miscues and you have to overcome your own,” he added.

Two more wins put the Twisters at 8-0-1 on the season.
