OA Runners Stay Busy

The cross country season has progressed as hoped by head coach Merle Hines. The Oldenburg Academy Lady Twisters, who are led by Sarah Billingsley, recently defeated North Decatur by a score of 17-41. Sarah Billingsley set a new course record at OA to win a time of 20:02. She was followed by teammates Kirsten Ricke (20:49) and Meredith Maier (21:05). Rachel Billingsley was not far behind in fifth place with a time of 23:52. Rounding out the top 10 for the Lady Twisters were Claire Dickey (8th) and Courtney Unkrich (9th).

The boys team suffered a 20-48 loss to the Chargers. Luke Wukusick was the team’s top finisher in third and a time of 20:41. Isaiah Frey was fifth and Chris Nurrenberg 11th.

Three days earlier, the Lady Twisters competed in the Indiana Catholic Cross Country Championships at Guerin Catholic High School. Sarah Billingsley set a new school record and placed first overall with a time of 18:41. As a team, the Lady Twisters placed fourth behind Brebeuf, Chatard and Cathedral. Maier (19:39) was second on the team and fifth overall, while Rachel Billingsley (20:25) was 11th. Dickey (55th) and Unkrich (71st) rounded out the top five for OA.

The boys placed 11th in the team competition. Wukusick and Frey led the way in 66th and 71st, respectively. Nurrenberg, Nick Back and Brian Ulrich rounded out the scoring for the Twisters.


OA Girls First at Martinsville

The Lady Twisters claimed first place at the Martinsville Invitational. Sarah Billingsley was the race winner with a time of 19:25. Ricke (3rd), Maier (4th) and Rachel Billingsley (5th) were all within just a minute of their team leader. Frey (45th) was the top finisher for the 11th placing boys team.
