2023 Inductees


Curt Eckstein, 2017

Accomplishments:

Curt Eckstein, ‘17, was a 2X State Champion - 2016 in cross country and 2017 in the 3200M event in Track & Field. Curt was no stranger to qualifying for state for either sport. He qualified for cross country state in 2014 & 2015; he followed that up with qualifying for track & field in 2016. He holds 2 records as well - 1 in the mile with a time of 4:24; and the other in the 2 mile with a time of 9:08. After he graduated from Oldenburg Academy he attended Purdue University where he participated in cross country and track & field. During his time at Purdue he added to his already impressive resume. In 2016, he was tabbed as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and was added to the Great Lakes All-Region team. Throughout his time, he was named Academic All-Big Ten, USTFCCCA All-Academic team, and a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar. He owns 5 different records at Purdue at the time of his graduation. Curt has come back to OA to help out both our cross country and track teams. 


Matt Moorman, 2016

Accomplishments:

Matt Moorman, ‘16, was also outstanding in 2 sports he played for Oldenburg Academy - basketball and football. While here at OA he helped lead the Twisters to their first ever sectional title in 2014, where he was also named the MVP of the sectional. He was named twice to the top 100 underclassmen in Indiana; 1 of only 4 1A players to be named in the top 60 seniors in Indiana; a 2X 1A All-State team; and he was named to the Academic All-State. He graduated from Oldenburg Academy  as the All-time leading scorer with 1,277 points. While Matt could score, he knew how to get his teammates involved as he is OA’s all-time leader in assists with 346. On the football field, he started to write the record book himself. He is OA’s all-time leader in passing yards (5,113), touchdown passes (56) and total offense (5,869). During his senior year, he threw 32 touchdown passes. Matt was named to the Indianapolis Star 25-man Dream Team.

Criteria for Induction

  • A nominee must have made a strong representation of OA Athletics on the playing field, in the classroom and in the community, upholding the highest degree of sportsmanship and OA values.

  • An OA athlete who later made significant contributions as a college player, coach, or administrator.

  • Candidates are not eligible until five (5) years following the completion of his/her athletic career at OA. The award may be voted posthumously.

Nominations are due to pkolks@oldenburgacademy.org no later than September 1, 2022 using the Nomination Form

Presentation

The award will be presented at a home basketball game in December. Each nominee's photo and induction is framed and permanently displayed in the OA Athletics Hall of Fame.
